The idea for this book began in the most unexpected place, on a boat sailing home after a fun‑packed family holiday in France. It was a long journey, the kind where the sea stretches endlessly around you and the hours seem to drift by as slowly as the waves. Somewhere in that quiet space between adventure and home, Calli, Mia, and I began imagining a story about Flea (Lucky).

What started as a way to pass the time quickly grew into something magical. The girls poured their ideas into the tale with excitement only children can bring, full of heart, humour, and honesty. None of us had any idea that this little story, written between giggles and sea breezes, would one day become a published book.

But we did know one thing right away: this story carried important messages. Messages about kindness, courage, belonging, and seeing the world through the eyes of those who don’t always have a voice.
